Most of us take walking for granted but just getting from one point to another is a strenuous everyday job for wheelchair users. Furthermore, elderly persons who use pushchairs face reliance on caregivers for travel.
Motorized options are available in the market but are expensive, bulky and inconvenient for transport.
Our team believes that mobility should be a right and not a luxury.
What we propose is a retrofit motorized wheelchair unit that can be attached onto any common wheelchair, be low cost as well as convenient for indoor usage and urban environments. With this, current wheelchair users are able to turn their existing wheelchair into a motorized one with just a simple add-on.
We are have currently finished our second prototype and are doing user testing to learn the different needs of various wheelchair users. We are also determining the functionalities of the accompanying mobile application through these interactions and feedback. Here are some photos of our current prototype:

The past month has been nothing short of amazing as we shared Project EMMA with many people. We are extremely grateful for each and every one of your feedback on Project EMMA. We have also started preparing the rewards for our backers and are looking forward to sending them out!
